Joseph’s Wonderings

“God with us”- What if that’s not what I wanted?

Did Joseph ever feel like this gift was an imposition?

This breaking through of inconvenient glory,

Interrupting the plans he had made.

A fiancée who says God claimed her as His,

She was betrothed to be mine.

What did I do to deserve this?

What did she do to deserve this?

An angelic dream, a declaration-

God with us but no one asked me.

Maybe that’s why he’s come to truly set me free.

To save me not from circumstance

Nor a world falling apart

But to quietly change the world by freeing my heart.

Find me “doing all that was commanded,”

To make the costly choice of obedience.

Even if I don’t understand.
